Former SCA President Paul Hammat was honoured with a Life Membership at the Annual General Meeting of the organisation on 3 August.
The citation from SCA as follows:
Paul was one of the founding members of the SCA Board, having served continuously since the very beginning. He transitioned to the SCA Board from the Board of the Australian Health and Welfare Chaplains Association. He attended the AHWCA conference in Hobart in 2009 where the decision was taken to form SCA and attended the first SCA conference in Melbourne in 2010.
In his workplaces and through SCA, Paul has diligently sort to build a level of professionalism in the spiritual care arena which encompasses respect and the honouring of each faith and religion.
He has served as an SCA Director, Company Secretary, Vice-President and President. He has been the lynch pin of the Board providing a consistent thread with its beginnings and steering it as SCA has sought to meet the changing needs of spiritual care within Australia. Paul has always worked diligently to ensure the continuation and survival of the organisation.
Paul was key to developing the SCA Standards of Practice – a large and complex project that now provides clear and articulate guidelines for best practice.
Over many years he has taken on tasks large and small, including preparation of agendas, minutes, policy documents and more. Throughout, he has held us to our task.
Paul retired from the Board of Directors and as President in February 2020.
His contribution to Spiritual Care Australia has been immense and the Board is ever grateful for his input and give thanks for his quiet leadership, enthusiasm and dedication.
