Setting the GPS: Finding your way in spiritual care

All details are on the submissions portal, and below.

Workshop and seminar presentations by SCA members and colleagues are an important and popular part of our national SCA Conference.

The SCA Conference Committee calls for submissions of proposals for workshops or seminars that are relevant to one or more of the following streams planned for the 2019 Conference:

  • Research and quality improvement
  • Consumer engagement and experience
  • Self-care
  • Models of spiritual care, including innovation
  • Ethics in spiritual care, including in research and in end-of-life care
  • General support of the conference theme

What are you doing or learning or researching in your place that will help your colleagues as they turn their attention towards finding their way in the landscape of contemporary spiritual care?

Submissions will be welcome from all sectors of spiritual care such as aged care, community care, crisis / emergency, defence, education, general health care, mental health care, prisons, sports, etc.

We know that, as spiritual carers in a changing world, we must be ever more attentive to questions like these:

  • If our destination is excellence, what steps will get us there?
  • What principles guide us on the way?
  • Who are our travelling companions and how do we share the journey?
  • When we find ourselves in unmapped territory, how do we manage our fears and expectations?

The 2019 Conference encourages us to set our own and our organisation’s spiritual navigation systems to provide best quality spiritual care. We will be looking particularly at the perspective of the client / consumer / patient and where spiritual care fits in the world of client-centred care.

So – as we continue our journey into the spiritual care profession of the future, what will help us set the GPS with most confidence?

Workshops and seminars open our minds, clear our vision, give us new language, and prepare us to try new paths.

We encourage you to consider presenting a workshop or seminar at our 2019 conference.

  • Workshops will be one hour in length and are expected to have some interactive elements to achieve their learning goals.
  • Seminars may be 25 minutes or 60 minutes and may be less interactive.

Important information:

  • Submissions are due no later than close of business 21 January 2019. No exceptions will be made.
  • All proposals for workshops or seminars must be submitted via the online portal. (See link below.)
